Texas Tech Official Class Ring Ceremonies – Spring 2010

It just so happens that one of my favorite traditions here at Texas Tech has to do with the Official Class Ring. It’s exciting to receive your ring either way but the Ceremony makes the moment your ring box is placed in your hands that much more special.

Texas Tech students who ordered their Official Class Rings earlier in the semester had the chance to participate in their own Ring Ceremony the past two evenings. Our Spring Ring Ceremonies were held Monday and Tuesday evening at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion. Since Merket Alumni Center is still undergoing it’s expansion, we relocated to Frazier.

The Frazier Alumni Pavilion was packed both nights with Texas Tech students, friends and family as we celebrated our student’s accomplishments and presented them with their ring. For those who have never attended a ceremony, the reception begins at 6:30 followed by the ceremony at 7 p.m. The ceremonies generally last about an hour.

One of my favorite aspects about my job is that I get to participate in the ceremonies year after year. It allows me to revisit my own ceremony and the pride I felt after receiving my ring. I love watching my fellow Red Raider’s faces as they take their ring out of the box and place it on their finger. My favorite moment is concluding the ceremony with the Matador Song.

On Monday evening all rings were presented by Chancellor Kent Hance while Robert Wernsman, a Mass Communications Professor, read the recipient’s names. On Tuesday evening Dr. Michael Shonrock, Senior V.P. of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, presented the rings while Student Alumni Board member, Michelle Ogbeide, read the names.

On behalf of the Alumni Association I would like to thank everyone who played a part in making these Ring Ceremonies so special and a BIG Congratulations to everyone who received their ring. We are so proud of you! Go Tech!

For those of you at the ceremonies who saw me using the FlipVideo, I am working on putting together a compilation of the clips! So please, stay tuned… I’m still learning but I hope to have it up soon!
